Although reports claim Arsene Wenger’s main concern for this summer transfer window is the signing of an elite striker, it appears the Frenchman is also looking to bolster other areas such as the centre back position. To this end, German media outlet Espress Arsenal are on the verge of signing Borussia Dortmund’s Neven Subotic as Arsenal have had a bid accepted for the Serbian.
Subotic who was once one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga, has found himself surplus to requirement after suffering from series of injuries. Although he has recovered, he was only able to make six appearances for Dortmund in the league last season. The lack of regular playing time has seen him ask to leave the club this summer and he has been given the permission to search for another club.
Subotic, 27, is reportedly not training with Dortmund any more has he has been given permission to speak to interested clubs. Liverpool, Sunderland, Middlesbrough and AS Monaco have all been linked with his signing. Unfortunately for the other clubs, Arsenal have won the race, if the reports are true that’s.
He will likely be a replacement for Per Mertesacker who only has one year left on his contract and there has been no talks of an extension.
