With Per Mertesacker clocking 32 in September and Calum Chambers looking like he will leave on loan, Arsenal certainly needs to sign a centre back this summer.
To this end, Wenger is said to be set to reject any bid for Laurent Koscielny as latest reports from Germany says Carlo Ancelloti is keen on bring the Arsenal defender to Bayern Munich.
Bayern Munich are believed to have been monitoring Koscielny since his contract negotiations in 2014 and are set to table a formal bid for the 30-year-old France International. It was reported in 2014 that Koscielny had signed a 3 year extension with the Gunners and Bayern assumed his contract was to expire in the summer of 2017 and were about to capitalize on that and bid for him. But latest report indicates that Koscielny’s contract actually expires in the summer of 2019.
Wenger who is currently a pundit at the Euros will not be willing to let his prized defender leave as he is set to mount a title challenge next season. Koscielny who is currently with the French side is in fine form as he is part of the French setup who will be playing in the finals of the tournament.
Asides the thrill of winning a trophy, there will be no point for Koscielny to make a move to Bayern as it would be difficult to displace Hummels and Jerome Boateng at the heart of Bayern’s defence.
Koscielny who has been in fine form for Arsenal in the last few seasons is expected to extend his current contract with the Gunners if he is able to maintain his current form.
