According to reports from the Italian media today, Arsenal are on the verge of signing one of the best centre backs in the Italian Serie A. From all indication, Arsenal are in the market for a new centre back and rightly so.
Arsenal’s defenders poor performance last season couple with the lack of a potent striker caused us the league and it appears Wenger is on the verge of correcting this in the transfer window. According to the Italian version of skysports, Arsenal are one of the many clubs interested in signign Jeison Murillo. According to the reports, Arsenal are actually in advanced discussion with Inter Milan for the signing of the Colombian.
It is said that Arsenal have tabled a bid of €18.5 million which translates to about £15.7 million for the signature of the player which according to the report is acceptable by Inter Milan. Although Inter has not formally acceptable the bid, Arsenal are said to have gotten personal to speak with the player and his representatives pending when Inter make up their mind.
Murillo is a Colombian and with David Ospina already at Arsenal, he will certain feel at home at the Emirates. However, as both Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool have all been linked with the signing of the defender, Arsenal needs to move fast or risk losing him to our rivals.
Murillo will no doubt be a quality addition to the current Arsenal backline. And with Koscielny set to miss the first month of the new football season due to playing up to the final of the European Championship, Murillo and Gabriel Paulista will be able to hold forth till the Frenchman returns.
And when Koscielny returns, Murillo will certainly be a worthy partner for him. Unlike the very error prone Paulista.
