Arsene Wenger claims all he needs to complete his squad right now is a striker and defender, and has identified Juventus £8m Daniele Rugani as a potential transfer target to the Emirates.
Arsenal’s defence has been their Achilles heel in the last few season and Wenger is keen on bringing in some fresh blood into the line up. With Paulista and Mertesacker constantly inconsistent, Wenger is looking to bring in someone to pair with Koscielny and has identified Italy’s U21defender Rugani as the man for the job.
The 21-year-old wonder kid is rated as one of the most exciting young centre-backs in Italian football with 50 caps for the country at youth level. He also impressed during the two seasons he spent at Empoli, and also making 17 league appearances last term which helped the Old Lady lift a fourth consecutive Serie A title.
The Serie A champions are keen to keep promising defender Rugani in their ranks. The club hierarchy claims Rugani is the future of their defence and the Italy squad and he is not for sale at any price. But this hasn’t deterred Wenger from making a raid for the defender amidst reports Everton are set to make a bid for the title winning defender.
