Wenger is currently entering the last year of his contract and the fans will need to see a Premier league title before he is handed a contract extension. But for Arsenal to be winners of England’s most coveted trophy, Wenger would have to bring in a tough defender and a world-class striker to add to his current Arsenal side.
Arsenal’s defence have been very shaky and inconsistent in the past seasons with Per Mertesacker lacking the pace to keep up with strikers and Gabriel Paulista still yet to adapt to the physicality of the league. Laurent Koscielny is the only defender who has been consistent and Wenger is looking for a defence partner to help plug the leakages in the Arsenal defence.
Latest reports according to Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli, claims Arsene Wenger has identified Roma’s ace Kostas Manolas as the ideal partner for Koscielny as he bids to introduce more steel into his Arsenal defence. The 25-year old who has established himself as one of the stoic stoppers of the Italian league due to his outstanding performance with Roma would represent a solid signing for Wenger.
This deal is almost as good as done as Greek international Kosta has recently rejected contract extensions with Serie A giants Roma. According to the reports, Roma are ready to sell Manolas and will accept an offer of £30m.
