It’s been another disappointing transfer market thus far for Arsenal fans, including me, with the manager Arsene Wenger needing to add more reinforcement to his squad ahead of the upcoming season.
There were reports yesterday via the Evening Standard that Arsenal in pursuit of a new replacement for Per Mertersacker admitted that Thomas Vermaelen could make a shock return to the Emirates stadium this summer.
According to report from Spanish media yesterday morning (via Evening Standard) suggested that the Gunners gaffer had held talks with the Belgian defender as the Frenchman looks to solve his side’s defensive problems.
However, there have been no comment from Arsenal or the manager as to the speculation but it is believed that a move for the 30-year-old is in a card who is free to leave Barca this summer.
Report elsewhere also claims the Frenchman is reportedly interested in German international Shkodran Mustafi but the Spanish club are refusing to lower their asking price below £42.1million for the 24-year-old.
After Per Mertesacker has been ruled out for the next coming five months due to knee injury, he will be missing the start of the season and the manager has been searching at all avenues to sign some cover ups to fill the void left by.
France international Laurent Koscielny also, his ruled out for first game of the season against Liverpool on 14 August at the Emirates stadium.
His absent leaves the Frenchman with Gabriel, Calum Chambers and Rob Holding as his only centre-back options and the boss has been forced into the market probably due to his inexperience.
