Arsenal target Odion Ighalo has penned a new contract extension with Watford, which will see the Nigerian remain at the Vicarage Road until 2021, according report from one Sky sources.
The Nigerian has been heavily linked with the Gunners when it was thought he future with the London club could be falling down the pecking order.
However, Ighalo who bagged 17 goals in 42 appearances for the Hornets in the last campaign has been linked away from Vicarage Road this summer. Arsenal wasn’t the only club interested in him as it was said the club turned down a £38m offer from Chinese side Shanghai SIPG for the Nigerian forward, according to reports.
It was at the end of June according to reports from the Guardian, that the club owner Giampaola Pozzo, admits that he is not considering selling the 27-year-old Nigerian.
Negotiations over a new contract have been going on for some time despite his previous deal not expiring until 2020 and terms were finally agreed this week. The club are expected to make the one-year extension official in the coming days.
The Hornets according to reports also rewarded the striker partner also the club captain, Troy Deeney, with a new five-year contract at the start of July. He netted 13-goals in the Premier League last season.
Watford’s first game with Walter Mazzarri as manager is on Saturday at Southampton.
