Atletico Madrid’s and Uruguayan Jose Maria Gimenez reportedly has a £56m release clause in his contract with the Rojiblancos.
Report according to Sky Sport journalist Guillem Balague has taken to Twitter to claim that the Uruguayan defender is highly unlikely to sign for Arsenal this summer.
The north London club are desperate in bringing in a new centre-back, as we’ve lost both Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista to long-term injury, while Laurent Koscielny’s extended rest after Euro 2016 where the reason youngsters Rob Holding and Calum Chambers were forced to start against Liverpool last weekend.
The 4-3 defeat in that game showed that Arsene Wenger must bring in another defender before this month’s transfer deadline, and whilst a number of names have been linked with the club, a new target appears to be Atletico Madrid star Jose Maria Gimenez.
However, an earlier report according to the Daily mail claimed that the north London club had opened talks with the Rojiblancos over a possible deal to land their Uruguayan international centre-back Gimenez.
