Arsenal’s hierarchy are reportedly admitted that Southampton and Portuguese international Jose Fonte is joining Manchester United this despite being strongly linked with a move to the Emirates stadium.
According to London Evening Standard [via Tribal Football] claimed the north London manager Arsene Wenger is unlikely to firm up his interest because the Portuguese is said to have his heart set on a move to the Old Trafford.
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is strongly keen in moving Fonte to United but executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has told him that some deadwood needs to be offloaded first.
The Portuguese tactician reportedly wants Fonte to mentor 22-year-old Eric Bailly while his presence at the Old Traffor could see Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo depart before next week’s deadline.
Fonte, who helped Portugal to Euro 2016 glory this summer, is under contract until 2018 and has been offered an extension but is yet to agree terms.
In addition, he has admitted he is flattered by the link to United.
