Arsenal have reportedly won the race over Barcelona for the signing of Valencia right-back Joao Cancelo. According to British tabloid, the 22-year-old has been a subject of transfer target for top European clubs after impressing for Valencia over the past two seasons.
Spanish outlet Sport also claim the La Liga champions are also interested in signing him in the summer but will be facing keen competition from Arsenal.
They say the La Liga giants have beaten off competition from Chelsea and Bayern Munich and Cancelo will move to the Nou Camp at the end of the season.
It is said that Cancelo has signed a five-year deal with Barca and will cost them around £25m. Super agent Jorge Mendes has negotiated the transfer and wanted it done in January.
But Cancelo has asked to stay at Valencia and help them out for the rest of the campaign before making the switch across Spain in the summer.
It is said that only the final transfer fee is left to be agreed with everything else sorted. It is a blow of Chelsea’s transfer plans who saw Cancelo as a long-term option at right-back.
