Arsenal striker Lucas Perez has emerged as a target of Southampton in the January transfer window, according to reports.
Perez joined Arsenal from Deportivo La Coruna in the closing stages of the summer transfer window but the Spaniard has been unable to play a key role at the Emirates since completing his £17m move.
He has only managed a handful of Premier League appearances and is firmly behind Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez in Wenger’s pecking order. With the imminent return of Danny Welbeck, Perez could find himself further down the pecking order and it is no surprise he is now being linked with a move away from the club in January.
Last month, reports emerged that Wenger would send the striker out on loan in January, although the boss quickly denied those claims but he might be forced to do so if Welbeck returns from injury and forces himself above the Spaniard.
And according to Goal via Shoot.co.uk, Southampton are keeping an eye on Perez’s situation at Arsenal.
The report suggests Southampton boss Claude Puel is a fan of the striker and could launch an ambitious move for his services in January.
It’s going to be a tough deal for the Saints to pull through because the player may not want to give up on his Arsenal career just five months after joining us but that doesn’t rule out the possibility of a deal happening if things get worse for him before the end of the winter transfer window.
In football, I have learned not to rule out anything, so I think there is a little chance of Perez joining the Saints maybe on a temporary deal if Welbeck returns in January and immediately hit the ground running.
