The Frenchman picked up a suspected hamstring problem midway through his side’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth on Tuesday

Arsenal have been dealt a blow after Francis Coquelin had to be taken off injured midway through their Premier League clash against Bournemouth on Tuesday.

The Gunners were trailing Bournemouth 2-0 before Coquelin sustained a suspected hamstring problem and had to be replaced by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain just before the half hour mark.

And manager Arsene Wenger will now be praying Coquelin, 25, has avoided a long-term injury with Arsenal short of options in the middle of the park.

Mohamed Elneny is currently away at the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt, while Santi Cazorla remains on the sidelines.

Should Coquelin join Cazorla in the treatment room for a lengthy period, Wenger will be left with just Oxlade-Chamberlain, Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey as experienced central midfielders to call upon in the midst of an intense battle for a top-four finish this season.

Bournemouth took the lead through Charlie Daniels after 16 minutes, before Callum Wilson doubled his side’s lead from the penalty spot after Xhaka brought down Ryan Fraser.
