Arsenal need proven quality stars to strengthen the squad this month but they are also focusing on talented youngsters.

The latest report in the British media suggests that the Gunners have moved in to sign a certain Brazilian international in the form of Flamengo center forward.

According to Independent, the Emirates club made an attempt to seal first option on any eventual transfer for teenage striker Vinicius Junior but the move was rejected by the Brazilian club.

Flamengo rate the teenage starlet very highly and have plans to bring him into the first team very soon. As per the provided Independent link, Junior has a release clause of 30 million euros in his contract ($32million).

Club’s general director Fred Luz informed the representative of Arsenal that only an immediate payment of a fee will put them in pole position to hire the Samba starlet. The Gunners never returned.

Former president of Flamengo Leite claimed:

“The talks didn’t get far, because Fred Luz told them plainly that future discussions would depend on the immediate payment of a sum that would give them priority among offers of equal value. At that point, the Englishman, who thought it was going to be a piece of cake, left and didn’t return.”

The Independent have not mentioned any specific figure that Flamengo may have demanded from the North Londoners but may be the British giants did not return because the fee was a huge one and not worth it.

In all fairness, the above mentioned release clause is also an enormous one for a boy who is just 16-year-old.
