Arsenal received a setback during the weekend’s victory over Everton as the Gunners lost two key players ahead of their FA Cup final against Chelsea
The Gunners defeated Everton 2-1 in their final Premier League fixture of the season, but that was not enough to land them a Champions League spot and they will now find themselves playing in the Europa League next season.
That win did not come freely, with Laurent Koscielny banned from participating in the forthcoming final and a third defender Shrokdan Mustafi is now uncertain for the game.
Arsene Wenger announced after the Everton clash that Gabriel is a doubt next weekend, and the German international is said to be suffering a concussion and may also not appear.
That leaves Arsenal with limited options for the three central position, and may force them to use Nacho Monreal and Rob Holding with either Francis Coquelin, Mathieu Debuchy, Krystian Bielik or Per Mertesacker. The German would obviously be the first alternative choice, due to it being his original role.
Antonio Conte’s side will be confident of victory that day and will be hoping to crack the Gunners defence with the likes of Eden Hazard, Diego Costa, Willian, Pedro, Michy Batshuayi and Cesc Fabregas on Saturday.
Rob Holding will be instrumental in holding together Arsenal defence regardless of which players he is partnered with, but Mertesacker will be better paired with him.
Can a back three of Holding, Mertesacker and Monreal conquer Chelsea?
