Napoli midfielder Jorginho will be staying at Napoli beyond the summer, according to his agent.
Arsenal had been heavily linked with the Brazilian midfielder as a possible replacement for the injury prone Santi Carzorla, and there were speculations of a £15m being prepared. However, Jorginho’s representative, Joao Santos, claim the midfielder is not ready to leave Napoli this summer.
“Arsenal has not contacted me,” he said, as quoted by Gazetta dello Sport. “Jorginho is happy in Naples. It’s obvious that some teams would be interested him, but he’s only thinking of Napoli. His goal is to do better than last year.
“The more time passes, the more difficult it will be for him to move. There is no release clause in his contract. If a club offers enough money to interest De Laurentiis, he might move.”
Napoli traditionally drive a hard bargain over their players and Arsenal would have make an irresistible offer to convince them to sell. Jorginho is capable of playing in a midfield two and is a tidy passer of the ball, so would excel well in Arsenal’s engine room.
But with Jorginho looking set to stay at Napoli, the Gunners may have to take their interest elsewhere.
