Arsenal Short Of Defender As Player Completes Move Out Of Arsenal

Arsenal Banter brings you latest update on Arsenal news from top media sites like Daily Mail, Metro, The Express, The Independent, The Telegraph, SkySports and so on.

Arsenal are already experiencing a defensive crisis ahead of the forthcoming season.

The Gunners have travelled to Australia for their pre-season tour as Arsene Wenger’s men get set for the new Premier League campaign.

Arsenal commence the Premier League season at home to Leicester on August 11. But like last season when they were defeated by Liverpool, Wenger could find himself weak for the opener, according to  Football.London.

Laurent Koscielny’s red card against Everton on the last day of the Premier League in the previous season means he will be absent for the first two games of the new season.

Meanwhile, Shkodran Mustafi, Rob Holding or Calum Chambers were not taken along to the pre-season tour after their involvement in the Confederations Cup and the U21 European Championships.

All three are expected to be given additional time to get fit again – as is right back Hector Bellerin, who reached the final of the U21 Euros – while it is unclear exactly when Gabriel will return from the knee injury that kept him out of the FA Cup final.

This leaves just Per Mertesacker and Carl Jenkinson as the only senior centre-backs in the team – although Jenkinson is more of a right-back and it seem he could be leaving this summer after being excluded from the pre-season squad.
