Monaco’s Thomas Lemar is reportedly requested from Leicester City that he be allowed to move to Arsenal this summer as the French champions play hardball.
The Ligue 1 outfit are seeing their title-winning squad be ripped apart this summer, with Bernardo Silva and Tiemoue Bakayoko having already left the club.
Kylian Mbappe and Benjamin Mendy have also been linked with a move away from the club, but according to The Sun, Lemar could be the next to leave as the 21-year-old seem intent to move to North London as he is anticipating working with Arsene Wenger.
It’s claimed that there is a concern from Lemar’s perspective that Monaco could block his move, at which point he could request for a move to realise his dream move to Arsenal.
Having been so impressive last season after bagging 14 goals and providing 17 assists in 55 appearances across all competitions, it’s no surprise that Monaco wants him to stay, but it remains a mystery whether or not they’re essentially fighting a losing battle and better off letting him leave.
The report further stated that an agreement for a long-term deal worth around £90,000-a-week has been reached between the player and Arsenal, and so it seems as there are lots of indications that a move will be announced before the end of this summer.
It will take a more from the Gunners coffer, with Arsenal having already secured the signature of striker Alexandre Lacazette in a club record deal, as Arsene Wenger looks make quality additions to his squad to increase their chances at the Premier League title next season.
Doubts remain hanging over the futures of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, but with big-name additions such as these, it will surely have a positive influence on all as Arsenal hope to tie them down to new contracts.
