Arsenal Banter brings you latest update on Arsenal news from top media sites like Daily Mail, Metro, The Express, The Independent, The Telegraph, SkySports and so on.
Fenerbahce right-back Gregory van der Wiel is close to sealing a deal with Crystal Palace.
The Dutch right-back was considered one of Europe’s most impressive defenders during the late 2000s. As such, he was linked with a move to Arsenal, because the Gunners would always show interest in any exciting young player.
Back then, van der Wiel was also being linked with the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid. The latest now is the news of him moving to Crystal Palace. Palace’s new manager, Frank de Boer, has close affinity with several Dutch players and seems intent on bringing the once-exciting right-back to London.
Van der Wiel ended up moving to Paris Saint-Germain from Ajax, recording 89 appearances and winning plenty of Ligue 1 titles before he moved on to Fenerbahce in Turkey. As with most players who move to Turkey, he’s slide into obscurity.
