Arsenal are reportedly interested in securing the signature of Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, who is expected to move out of Goodison Park this summer.
According to the Evening Standard, both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs are targeting the 23-year-old, who has entered into the last year of his current deal.
However, Barkley will not come cheap with, Everton, who have been busy in the transfer market, apparently holding out for £50 million.
The Englishman is currently recuperating from surgery, which has ruled him out of the club’s pre-season’s tour, although he is expected to be back on his feet again before the end of August.
Tottenham have long been linked with a move for Barkley, but are yet to make an official approach and are yet to make any transaction in the transfer market during the current transfer window.
Arsenal have already signed Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette and remain heavily linked with a move for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar.
However, there have also been reports the club are keen to purchase another midfielder, and Barkley looks to be a good enough option for the Gunners to consider.
Arsenal will also need to trim the squad at some point and there are a number of squad players who are expected to leave including: Kieran Gibbs, Mathieu Debuchy, Calum Chambers, Carl Jenksinson, Jack Wilshere and Lucas Perez.
