Riyad Mahrez will not be leaving Leicester City this summer despite being heavily linked with a move to Arsenal earlier this summer, according to Steve Nicol.
The Algerian international struggled to make an impact in his second full season in the Premier League after a disappointing return of six goals and three assists in 36 appearances in the English top tier last season.
Mahrez was an integral part of Leicester winning squad in the 2015-16 season after the attacking midfielder found the net 17 times and provided 11 assists to win the PFA player of the year award.
The African midfielder opted to extend his deal with the Foxes last summer despite being linked with a move to Arsenal and La Liga giants Barcelona.
Mahrez has been mentioned as a potential alternative for Arsenal if Arsene Wenger is unable to convince Monaco to release France international Thomas Lemar.
Former Liverpool defender Nicol believes Mahrez will remain at Leicester beyond the summer transfer window.
“He is a great player. He is a talented player. He is going nowhere,” Nicol told ESPN FCon Friday afternoon.
“He will stay at Leicester. There is always talk and there are always rumours.”
