Barcelona are threatening to enter the race for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar alongside the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City this summer, following the exit of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain.
Reports from L’Equipe claim that Arsenal – who have reportedly been the frontrunners in the race to sign the player – could be at a risk of losing out of their prime target as Barcelona look to replace Brazilian, who transferred in a world record deal.
It is understood that the Blaugrana have a keen interest in Lemar and are willing to go as far as spending the £198m that they earned from the sale of Neymar.
Arsenal have previously submitted three rejected bid to Monaco for the 21-year-old midfielder and are ready to go in with a fourth bid as the Monégasques have set a price tag over the £100m mark. Liverpool – despite the acquisition of Mohamed Salah this summer – are also hot on the player’s trail, while the French report claims City have also shown interest.
Loaded new funds, Barcelona are well-equipped to making a move for Lemar as they look to strengthen their central park ahead of the coming season.
The Frenchman bagged 14 goals and provided a further 14 assists last season, and acknowledges Barcelona’s interest in him despite reports showing the former La Liga champions eyeing the likes of Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho.
Should Lemar move to Barcelona, Arsenal are willing to consider Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez as an alternative choice – despite the fact that Craig Shakespeare has set the price tag on the Algerian winger at £50m.
