Breaking! Ozil signs four-year deal with Manchester United

Arsenal Banter brings you latest update on Arsenal news from top media sites like Daily Mail, Metro, The Express, The Independent, The Telegraph, SkySports and so on.

Manchester United are leading the race to sign Ozil from Arsenal, with the player running out of his contract this summer.

The Red Devils are also interested in signing Alexis Sanchez, though Manchester City still appear favorite to land the player.

United’s path to Ozil now seems clear with Barcelona, who were interested in snapping him up, withdrawing their interest following the £142million arrival of Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool.

And the Manchester Evening News say Mourinho thinks Ozil is ready to go extramile to leave Arsenal and join him at United.

The pair have a close relationship dating back to their time at Real Madrid.

Mourinho signed the 29-year-old in his first summer as Real manager in 2010, shortly after the player starred at the World Cup in South Africa.

Together, they put a stop to Barcelona’s dominance of La Liga by scooping the title in 2012.

A reunion could be on the cards with United desperate to buy a new No10 given Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s loss of form.

Jesse Lingard has impressed in the role in recent weeks but Mourinho supposedly does not want him as a long-term option.

The MEN say, however, that Mourinho has not initiated contact with Ozil about joining him at United.

And that could yet pave the way for the Germany international to sign a shock Arsenal contract extension.

Speaking yesterday, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger admitted he was hopeful of keeping Ozil out of United’s clutches.

“Yes. There is still an opportunity for him to stay,” he said.

“It looks like Sanchez will not extend his contract, but we want to keep Jack and if we have an opportunity maybe to keep Ozil, the rebuild will be less deep than if all three left.”
