Alan Shearer comments about Unai Emery breaks Arsenal fans

Arsenal Banter brings you latest update on Arsenal news from top media sites like Daily Mail, Metro, The Express, The Independent, The Telegraph, SkySports and so on.

Former England international Alan Shearer told BBC Radio Five Live how Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira was the difference for his side, as he made a significant contribution to the Gunners’ victory.

“They (Arsenal) certainly deserved the win, they were much the better team in the second half. Torreira made a difference when he came on at half-time,” Shearer said.

“The difference that was he looked forward so quickly. Every time he got the ball his first thought was ‘Can I move it forward?’ and there was so much more movement ahead of him where there wasn’t in the first half. That was the big difference.”

Arsenal struggled to get going in the opening period against Newcastle, as the hosts looked to apply more pressure than in previous games and take advantage of Unai Emery’s side’s inconsistent defence.

The Magpies probably had the better of it in the first half and rarely looked under threat, but the telling moment of the game came when Lucas Torreira replaced Matteo Guendouzi at the beginning of the second period.

The Uruguay international gave Arsenal a purpose on the ball, and he soon got them ticking. Torreira’s positivity seemingly had an effect on his teammates, as the pace throughout the side quickened and there was more fluidity in the final third, which resulted in Newcastle struggling to block the spaces.

Granit Xhaka and Mesut Ozil grabbed the goals for the visitors, with the latter returning to form. Arsenal have the ability in the final third to hurt teams, but so far this season they’ve often been too cautious, or too slow, to get the ball moving forward. At Newcastle, Torreira was the difference and he galvinised the Arsenal team to victory.
