Arsenal youngster Emile Smith Rowe is hoping he can bring a little bit of Kevin De Bruyne to Arsenal – by replicating the Manchester City superstar.
Midfielder Smith Rowe earned the attention of Gunners fans and Unai Emery during their pre-season tour of Singapore – where he netted against Atletico Madrid.
Smith Rowe has been given three first-team appearances as a reward this season and netted his first professional goal against Qaragab in the Europa League earlier this month.
The young Gunner is likely to be given another first team outing during their Carabao Cup tie with Blackpool on Wednesday night – with fellow teenagers Joe Willock, Julio Pleguezuelo and Eddie Nketiah also hoping to earn a place in Emery’s plans.
The 18-year-old is certainly one of the brightest lights to come through the Arsenal academy in recent years and now he is targeting copying Belgian star De Bruyne.
“Someone I inspire to play like is probably Kevin De Bruyne because of the way he plays,” Smith Rowe told Goal.
“I learn so much from the entire coaching staff and players every day. The training sessions are so intense which is really good for me to learn every day.
“I need to stay focused every day, keep learning and keep taking on what all the coaches are telling me.
“I’m obviously in a privileged position to most people but for me it’s about staying focused and getting the right advice from my family and the people around me.”
Smith Rowe has plenty of perfect role models to follow to the top – with the youngster also learning from Barcelona legends Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta.
“When I was kid I looked up to Messi and Iniesta.
“Watching them play for Barcelona inspired me so much. The link-ups they had and the goals they scored and created were amazing.”
