Arsenal face competition from Napoli for prolific Ivorian striker

Seydou Doumbia knows where the net is. He scored 57 goals for BSC Young Boys of Switzerland in his 78 games for them, including 20 league goals in his debut season. He moved to CSKA Moscow in 2010 and has smashed in 45 goals in just 58 games for the Russians.

Arsene Wenger is a big fan of the striker and, Metro reports, was preparing a bid after hearing that CSKA would not insist on clubs meeting his £26 million buy out clause. Great news then, until you hear his agent say of Napoli “Doumbia knows the city is crazy about football and loves the way the Napoli play.”

Napoli need a new striker to replace Ezequiel Lavezzi who is destined for either Paris Saint-Germain or the rich Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala. Doumbia’s agent believes that the striker can adapt to any league and has never shown any nerves when moving to a new club.

His price tag at the minute is likely to be around the £15 million mark, which is a bargain for a good hit man in today’s market and would appeal to the Arsenal board. It would also give Robin van Persie some reassurance that Arsenal are serious about challenging for trophies next season, wouldn’t it?

Have you thought of the fact that Doumbia could oust RVP from his position? He’s a striker as well, and I don’t think he’d join a club where he woudln’t be guaranteed a steady job.
