Catalonia is one of those parts of the world blessed with plenty of raw natural football talent, and it comes as no surprise when anyone seeking a footballing education here finds themselves at Barcelona.
Arsenal have made it a bit of a habit in recent times to go fishing in the Barcelona academy for young players whose progress they can accelerate and convert into world class talent.
However, the latest player from Catalonia linked with a move to the Gunners is rather different from the usual mould. While most people would consider a 21-year old player as young, Isaac Cuenca is someone who has featured in the Barcelona first team 30 times this season and is hardly ‘raw’.
Spanish daily Sport, which usually acts like a mouthpiece for Barcelona, especially when they are trying to snatch players from other clubs, reports that Cuenca is attracting attention from the Gunners. The youngster is contracted to the Catalan club till 2015, having inked a new contract in January earlier this year.
However, Cuenca’s goal return this season has been a paltry 4, and with just 8 assists to go with it, new head coach Tito Vilanova is rumoured to be re-considering his future. A lowly price of €10 million for the Spanish winger would be well up Arsenal’s alley, and it is possible that Arsene Wenger will move for the youngster this summer.
