Arsenal Recalls Akpom From Loan Spell – Set To Replace Giroud?

Arsenal’s promising youngster Chuba Akpom officially returned to the club after a 6 week loan spell at Coventry City.

The young forward who signed for Coventry City until the end of the current season a month ago has officially ended his loan spell. Akpom who was a member of the Arsenal team that toured Asia during the pre-season remains one of the most promising youngsters in the team. The club had sent him out in order to help him gain more playing time, and gain experience.

The 18 year old England U-19 star had taken to twitter to inform his followers that his time with Coventry had come to an end. The player who was previously on loan to Brentford has had to feature in a couple of Arsenal Youth games while his loan spell lasted. It would be recalled that the coach of the Sky Blues once complained about how the player’s development was being hindered by the fact that he had to shuttle between Arsenal Youth team and his team.

Akpom on several occasions within the last few weeks featured for the youth league and UEFA youth league games rather the staying with City full time. Some of us had thought the decision to always recall Akpom each time the Arsenal Youth club had a match was strange; and this latest development could just be linked to that problem.

Though, it is not yet clear why Akpom was recalled from his loan spell; he is expected to be slotted back into the team as the club’s third choice striker. It is obvious that the boss has lost interest in Niklas Bendtner because of his knack for getting into trouble. The Dane was recently fined two weeks waged by the club for his recent antic in his country Denmark and the Giroud’s current form and Sanogo’s indifferent start to his Arsenal career, it will not be too surprising if Wenger starts choosing Akpom ahead of the more experienced trio. His case is particular helped by his hattrick for the under 21 side.

The free scoring and highly talented striker featured only 6 times for Coventry, but did not score a single goal during his loan spell at the club. He is no doubt one of the best youth strikers currently in the club; and officials of the club expect him to make the massive leap in the next season or two.
