The manager of Real Madrid, Jose Mourinho, has given a massive hint to Arsenal fans that the Turkish midfielder Nuri Sahin is about to leave Madrid. Mourinho named his squad for the opening game of the La Liga season against Valencia today. Every available player was named in the squad except Sahin and Ricardo Carvalho.
Carvalho has fallen foul of Mourinho and been told to find another club, but Sahin had been included in the pre-season games, if only as a left back. His omission today is a sure sign that he has no place in the Madrid side anymore this season. The sale of Alex Song to Barcelona was the signal that Sahin was waiting for before he pledged his season to Arsenal.
Maybe Mourinho is a little upset that Sahin did not take his advice and join his former Chelsea colleague Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool. Maybe Sahin saw Liverpool play yesterday and thought, No way Jose. Mourinho apparently got wind of the Barcelona move for Song and did not want to help his strongest competition. Maybe that is why Wenger pre=empted things by announcing the sale of Song yesterday.
Another possibility is that Mourinho has finally captured the Croatian midfielder Luka Modric from Tottenham, and that has sealed the Sahin deal. For whatever reason, Sahin has not joined the rest of the Madrid team, and may already be on his way to London. Hopefully an announcement will be made tomorrow or Tuesday.
