Arsene Wenger explains the delay in Sanchez’s contract

Arsene Wenger said Alexis Sanchez wants to extend his stay at the club and hopes to reach an agreement with the player’s agent. Sanchez future’s uncertainty at the club have made Arsenal’s season gloomy as the player’s expires in two months’ time and ChelseaManchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have all shown interest in his signature.

Wenger remains confused with the fret over the Chile international’s future at the North London club and insisted the player already knows what his fate would be.

“Basically he wants to stay at the club and it is down to finding an agreement with his agent,” Wenger told a press conference on Friday. “The players first have to see if they are happy at the club, then they have to find an agreement with the finances involved.”

Should Sanchez decides to move on, that would leave them short of their best player. A move away from the Emirates could see him land in a Premier League rival club, as Robin van Persie, who left the Gunners for Manchester United in 2012.

United have once again set their sight on another of Arsenal’s best, Sanchez. Jose Mourinho has put in motion efforts to get in contact with the former Barcelona star in order to convince him of a move down to Old Trafford.

Chelsea Antonio Conte has refused to make any comment concerning all transfer rumors making rounds, but according to reports by Evening Standard, his side is the most likely to land Sanchez. The player would come at a worth of £50m (€62m) if they are unable to get him to pen a new deal.

But former Arsenal player Paul Merson insists, the Blues have a purse that can afford him.

“There’s about eight of the players with contracts running down and I find it extraordinary that they are in this situation. Because of everything going on with Arsene Wenger, I think they’ve just forgotten about the players. I know the way Arsenal work so there is no way they will let Sanchez leave for nothing if they can £50m for him in the summer. They will have no qualms in selling him to Chelsea.

“Arsenal will have no choice if Chelsea are the team that are prepared to pay £50m then Arsenal won’t let him see his contract out. People say ‘oh well, they won’t sell to Chelsea’, but they sold Robin van Persie to Manchester United so they won’t be fussed about that.”
