Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has hinted that Mesut Ozil could make a return during the Gunners’ clash with Manchester City on Sunday, according to the Sport Review.
The Germany international has been in and out of the side after struggling with fitness issues which has contributed to Arsenal’s recent slump in form, but the manager has confirmed he is under contention this weekend.
Having played for Germany against Azerbaijan Wenger will be hopeful that he is match fit for the massive game against City. During his pre-match conference he said: “He is in contention to start the game.
“He played 20 minutes for Germany in Azerbaijan and he came back focused and worked very hard this week.”
Ozil has been part of a number of transfer reports with some believing he is unhappy at the club and with only one year left on his contract a move could be in the offing. However those at Arsenal are confident he will extend his time once negotiations start in the summer.
The attacking midfielder has been an influential force in the Gunners side since joining in 2013 but with just five goals and assists in 22 league appearances he will be looking to turn his form around in the remaining games of the season.
With league leaders Chelsea 12 points ahead of City they will be looking to secure their top four place and advance on Tottenham in second, but for Arsenal it will be a crucial game with the London side sitting in sixth and six points adrift from fourth place Liverpool.
