Arsene Wenger tempted by another striker for Arsenal

I think that Arsenal might be playing a 3-2-5 formation during the coming season. Arsene Wenger has let slip that he is looking closely at yet another striker. Last week it was Spanish striker Adrian Lopez who was being linked to Arsenal, and this week it is Marco Reus.

Wenger commentated on Germany’s quarter final against Greece for French TV, and was seriously impressed by their 23-year old striker Marco Reus. The Borussia Dortmund player capped a brilliant performance with a great goal and has put himself firmly in the thoughts of Arsenal’s boss.

Germany rotated their front line so, unfortunately, Wenger did not get to see Reus play with Arsenal’s new signing Lukas Podolski but was asked by his co-commentator whether he was tracking Reus and the Frenchman admitted that he was.

Reus was loaned to Borussia Monchengladbach last season but will start the next season at Dortmund after scoring 21 goals in his 37 games. He has got five years on his Dortmund deal and cost the Germans around £14 million so if Arsenal want to sign him he will be expensive. We all know that Arsenal can afford most players if they really want them but do not like to spend a lot of money.

What worries me is that, with Giroud and Podolski joining the Gunners, Arsenal are blessed with a host of strikers. Does Wenger’s continued search for more indicate that we might soon be losing one? I am not talking about Vela, Bendtner or Chamakh here but the top scorer and player of the year Robin van Persie.

I hope not but I am getting worried by the lack of progress in new contract talks. Am I worrying for no reason?

On 4 January 2012, Reus signed with his former club Borussia Dortmund, for a transfer fee of €17.5 million, on a five year deal that will keep him at the club until July 2017. Reus will rejoin Dortmund on 1 July 2012. He just signed with Dortmund, not going anyway

Considering Wenger isn’t going to gamble more than a Caramello on RVP staying, I’m sure he’s looking at possible replacements. So far Robin hasn’t accepted the offer made by the club, so we should be prepared in case he does.

There are now 9 strikers at arsenal competing for 1 spot. Well, not really competing, as the spot firmly belongs to RvP, as long as he is fit and not sold. But podolski, giroud, chamakh, vela, bendtner, park, campbell, afobe and Wellington silva all have to hope persie is injured to get some first team action. Ok maybe poldi can play out wide, and bendtner will be sold. Wenger is rumored to wanna keep chamakh and vela to give them a chance. Campbell, Wellington and afobe will probably be loaned out. And vela can play out wide. That still leaves chamakh, park and giroud as out and out strikers on the bench. Not to mention gervinho, ox, arshavin and Walcott, who now have competition from vela and poldi on the wings. Some of these ayers are bound to get annoyed and create a bad atmosphere due to little game time. So wenger should stop chasing strikers. Sign a playmaker instead

Only a mad man would change our game style. We are at our best when we dominate the midfield it would be foolish to change things now. We need to bring in an attacking midfielder more than anything else in my opinion

Don’t listen to this bollox. Wenger knows which players he wants and the last thing he’s going to do is get ambushed on TV to disclose his targets. This was just him feeding this gullible twat a piece of titbit to send them off on a wild goose chase. Don’t believe for one second he’s after another striker. More likely a certain DM whose name will not be mentioned until he’s sold his Villa in Rennes..if you know what I mean.
