ARSENAL star Mesut Ozil has held transfer talks with Fenerbahce, according to stunning reports in Turkey.
Ozil apparently met with representatives from Fenerbahce while on a short break in Istanbul.
Turkish newspaper Hurriyet claim the Arsenal star sat down with ‘important names’ from the club to discuss a future move.
The meeting is said to have been kept secret and the 28-year-old reportedly spent 17 hours in Istanbul.
Ozil is a third-generation Turkish-German and visited Istanbul last year, posting an image on his Instagram account with the caption “Always a good idea #LoveThisCity”.
The midfielder has also openly spoken of his love for Fenerbahce and admitted last summer he would like to play for the Turkish side.
“In the future I want to wear a Fenerbahce shirt. It would be an honour,” he said in July.
“Everyone knows I am a Fenerbahce fan.”
The Germany international is under contract with the Gunners until June 2018 but is reportedly dragging his heels over a new deal.
He is said to be demanding a £250,000-a-week contract along with fellow Gunners star Alexis Sanchez.
Speaking at Arsenal’s recent Annual General Meeting, CEO Ivan Gazidis discussed the possibility of new deals for the club’s top players
“We have a good track record in recent season of retaining our key players, developing young players and attracting new players,” Gazidis said.
“I can’t get into a discussion on individual players but can assure you will apply the same focus, rigour and diligence to members of our current squad and I think you can see the direction of travel.”
