How many strikers do Arsenal need?

The latest Arsenal transfer arrival Olivier Giroud has stated that his intentions are not to replace the Dutch striker Robin Van Persie in the Gunners front line.

With the Dutchman highly linked with a possible move away from the Emirates stadium this summer, many have touted Giroud as his replacement, but it seems that neither Wenger nor the Frenchman want that to happen.

Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger has clearly stated his wish for Robin to stay, and although it seems like the Gunners captain is still unsettled, Wenger has thought of different possibilities to make play him alongside Podolski and Giroud in the frontline.

‘When you make the decision to join a great club, you know there is already a great forward,’ Giroud told French newspaper L’Equipe. ‘I know what to expect.

‘Van Persie is a fantastic player who was outstanding last season.

‘He has been at Arsenal for eight years, so I hope I will have time to adapt and improve.

‘Anyway, I don’t go there to take his place.’

Arsene Wenger will face a tough job choosing between all the options he has now in attack, with the likes of Walcott, Gervinho, Podolski, Giroud, Chamakh, Van Persie, Park, and all the rest fighting for a place in the first eleven. Surely SOMEONE will have to leave?

We need as many as we can get into a 25 man squad allowing for unlimited under 21s. for me there is 4 attacking roles in 14231 formation. i want 4 players for each of those. my 16 for the 4 attacking roles in no particular order are: rosicky rvp podolski giroud walcott chamberlain gervinho chamakh watt arshavin vela bendtner campbell eisfeld ryo afobe
likewise i want 8 players for the 2 midfield roles song arteta wilshire coquelin frimpong diaby ramsey lansbury
in defence i think we can get by with 3 players for each position. sagna jenkinson yennaris mertesacker bartley koscielny vermaelen djourou miquel gibbs santos henderson.
in goal i would go for 4 keepers szcesney fabianski mannone martinez.
all this leaves 5 players missing out squillaci botelho denilson eastmond and park. im sorry i just cannot pick them over any other homegrown/non-homegrown players.

It doesnt work like that. we cant afford to have four players in each of those positions because the wages would be too high. if we want to keep RVP wich we do we have to dump the dead weight such as vela chamakh arshavin. Bentner could still be usefull because he allows for a change of system. we cannot afford all of these players because we have no saudi billionaire pumping money into the club like MC.

    7 and ¼ strikers.

There you are, now do I get the biggest piece of cake after tea?

On a more serious note, some years ago Wenger said that you can’t start a season with less than 4 strikers. If I remember correctly, this was in the Jeffers days.

I think we will have a minimum of 4 strikers at Arsenal this coming season. Last season we had RVP, Chamakh, Park and I guess Arshavin. I think each striker Wenger buys indicates one who is being sold. We will not again have a squad with depth like the Invincibles until the stadium is paid off, so there’s no question of us having adequate cover for every position.
