Jan Vertonghen keeps Arsenal guessing

The Arsenal primary target Jan Vertonghen spoke about the possible move which may occur in the summer, but although all signs pointed towards a switch to the Emirates he’s still thinking about a stay and nothing has been decided yet.

Being targeted by Arsenal for quite some time now, Vertonghen flirted with the Gunners and their arch rivals Tottenham stating that he would love a move to either of the two clubs, but now he doesn’t seem too sure he’s ready to leave Holland.

“Everyone has already made their peace with the fact that I’ve gone, but I’ve not gone yet.

“I have a year left on my contract and I haven’t decided anything. I’m still at Ajax.”

Rumours have appeared that Mertesacker’s time on the Emirates may have ended with the injury he picked up against Sunderland, and that means he must be replaced. Regardless if the giant German will be sold or not, Vertonghen’s skills could be put to good use at Arsenal.

Vertonghen is naturally a central defender, but he is often used as a defensive midfielder or even as a left-back, as his offensive abilities often motivate him into joining the attack exactly the way Veramelen does it every time at Arsenal. Do you think that the two Belgian stars would make a good defensive pairing?

No need of any new defender and I dont think Wenger swill sign one. With Vermaelen and Koscielny, arsenal already have a very good central pair, backed up by Mertesacker and Djourou. But if possible, I would let Djourou leave for his own good. Still there is Ignasi Miquel and Kyle Bartley, who I believe should be included in the side next season. For the left-back position, Arsenal should recall Pedro Botelho back from loan. He is a good player and would serve Arsenal well. Maybe Arsenal need to find a good young right back.

Flexibility and backup, these two words justify Vertonghen`s inclusion in the 2012/13 squad.

I hate it when I read blogs and people say we don’t need cover in defence or DM it is so clear that we do. Yes we at last look to have a good first choice defence paring but what about after that. Do you really want to see djourou have a long run in defence ? I for one don’t , he is not good enough. As for youth coming through well if they are good enough then they will make it. It is about time that we have a squad of quality not just first eleven, so please buy Mr Wenger also Mvila and a striker. I’m sure Van Persie would agree with me

I seriously can’t see with all our injuries every single year that any arsenal fan can say that we don’t need another defender especially one that is very cheap for his quality and can play in 3 positions.

It’s will be grant to see the pairing of our current defenders, I don’t think we need that for now. But I think it will be nice having Vertonghen and it’s by selling Djour off.

seriously we need quarity players boths defenders midfielders and fowarders and alex song should have a challenge in his own side by doing so mr wenger should go back to his formala formation 4-4-2 that should be his next summer line up if he wants to win any trophy at all next season let him enter market for transfer window. Up arsenal gunners for life.
