Nicklas Bendtner realises a dream but is still disappointed

The out-of-favour Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner put himself right in the shop window yesterday by scoring two cooly-taken goals for Denmark last night but refused to celebrate having achieved his ‘dream’ of scoring at the major compeition because his team still lost.

“I’m really disappointed,” Bendtner told DR1. “It’s always great to score but the most important thing for me was to hold onto the point.

“My dream of scoring a goal in the Euros came true, but that was the only thing that I was happy about. The disappointment of losing the point was greater than scoring the goals.

“We gave everything we had and we fought really hard to get back into the game. Coming back to 2-2 was fantastic for us. So of course we were sad and disappointed that we lost the game.”

His unhappiness may yet be compounded by UEFA as they are expected to hit the Dane with a big fine for revealing his underpants that were sponsored by one of the biggest online bookmakers in the world.

Paddy Power may be extremely happy with all the well-orchestrated publicity, but the fact remains that he has openly breached their rules about unapproved advertising during the games, and it will interesting to see how much of a fine they hit him with as punishment, and even more interesting to find out who pays it!
