Arsenal signing Cohen Bramall will wear the no.85 shirt after completing his £40,000 transfer from non-league side Hednesford Town.
The 20-year-old sealed his shock move to the Emirates yesterday after impressing during a trial with the Gunners.
The left-back, who Arsene Wenger compared to Ashley Cole, had been playing non-league football with Hednesford Town and was made redundant by car manufacturers Bentley before Christmas.
Wenger said the youngster is likely to compete with the U23s this season and, according to the Mirror, Bramall’s taken the highly coveted no.85 shirt at the Emirates.
Bramall’s rapid rise means he’s unlikely to be thrown into first-team football this term but Wenger gave the full-back hope for the future by comparing his challenge to that of Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny.
The pair both played in the lower leagues in France before making the step-up to Arsenal and Wenger’s hopeful that Bramall could do the same.
‘Are you ready enough to fight [to show] that you are above this level and that you absolutely want to come back?’ said Wenger.
‘Players like Giroud and Koscielny have had that test. They are similar to that. Once they get up, they really mean it.
‘[Bramall] is a young, promising left back who has a lack of experience at the top level but who has fantastic ingredients.’
