Roma are set to bid for Riyad Mahrez but the Leicester City winger would still favour a transfer to either Arsenal or Barcelona this summer, according to reports.
The Algeria international is attracting plenty of interest this summer after making it public that he wants out of the King Power Stadium to test himself at a bigger club.
Clearly ambitious, Mahrez is not content to settle on joining Roma, who are stepping up their interest in him as a replacement for Liverpool new-boy Mohamed Salah for next season.
According to Goal, the 26-year-old is holding out for an offer from Arsenal or Barcelona, with the Gunners known to be showing an interest in his services in this transfer window.
While Arsene Wenger’s current priority seems to be for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar, it has been widely reported that Mahrez is being considered as a backup option.
Roma are expected to launch an opening bid of around £30million for the 2015/16 PFA Player of the Year, but it could take much more than that to persuade Leicester to let their star player go.
Mahrez was in sensational form for the Foxes as they won the Premier League title just over a year ago, and though his form dipped like most other players at the club last season, he is thought to be valued at around £50m.
It remains to be seen if Arsenal will come back in for him, but despite his desire to leave Leicester, Mahrez seems in little hurry to take up an offer to move to the Stadio Olimpico.
