Arsenal face stiff competition for the signature of Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri with FC Barcelona now targeting the player.
There was some fair amount of pleasure among the Arsenal fans when FC Barcelona star Neymar moved from Spain to France and completed his transfer to PSG.
After years of courting Arsenal players – the likes of Thierry Henry, Cesc Fabregas and Hector Bellerin – there was a feeling that the Spanish side had finally got a taste of their own medicine.
However, it seem that the Catalan club could still have the upper hand after indicating interest in Arsenal target Jean-Michael Seri.
It was reported last week that Arsene Wenger is a big admirer of the player and is apparently waiting for Arsenal to sell a few players before making a move for the midfielder.
Seri impressed immensely for Ligue 1 outfit Nice last season and it seems that he has more than enough suitors across Europe.
He’s a dynamic versatile midfielder, capable of winning possession and creating chances further up front. What’s most attracting about the player is his €40 million release clause which, in today’s market, is a superb tag for a first-team midfielder at a top club.
It remains to be seen where Jean-Michael Seri will end up on 1 September. It surely won’t still be at Nice but the news of Barcelona’s interest is bad news for Arsenal. The Gunners might be able to offer Seri more first-team football but the lure of the Camp Nou and Lionel Messi could prove irresistible for the midfielder.
