Podolski the first of THREE arrivals at Arsenal?

May 1, 2012
By

Earlier this season Wenger spoke at a press conference about the summer transfer window, saying that Arsenal won’t be looking to bring in numbers, but quality. The Frenchman finally seems to have understood that only big players can create big performances and he did just what he said he would.

Now after Arsenal secured their first signing very early in the season, and the fans feel like they’ve won a big Bingo bonus and they are happy that Wenger seems to have decided to end the trophy drought next season. But now everybody is asking who will join next.

According to the rumours, the next targets Wenger will try bringing in are Ajax’s Jan Vertonghen and Rennes’ Yann M’Vila. Jan and Yann are both very impressive players who are sure to improve Arsenal’s game, but it won’t be easy to land both of them.

While Wenger is looking to get a cut-price of £7m for Vertonghen as the defensive star only has a season on his contract with Ajax, M’Vila won’t be easy at all to bring as other giant European clubs are also tracking his every move. It is believed that it will take a fee of at least £25 m to motivate the French club to let the defensive midfielder go.

Who do you think will join?

it gr8 havin podolski…..having jan wuld be a gr8 combination at the back…and also yann pairing with song wuld be perfect, but i wuld prfer aving a playmaker in the team, cuz the like of rosciky are out of their days…..we need someone to act as the heart of the team in the midfield, distribute ball and controle it… Song is trying but that is not his job, so i think havin M’villa alone wont solve it, except if he can play in that role

I am basking in my own excitement after the confirmation of the signing of Lukas Podolski. To be honest, I don’t think we should sign a player like Vertonghen if he’s going to sit on the bench. I don’t think he’ll replace Koscielny or Vermaelen and if the plan is to play him at left-back, why don’t we just sign a left-back then maybe play Santos as cover on the left-wing. Makes sense. At the same time, I don’t think we need another DM as we have Song, Arteta and Wilshere who are all deep-lying midfielders (All are immensely talented) and as such, i think we should be looking to bring in a player like Eden Hazard/Younes Belhanda who can play on the wings in case we change to a 4-4-2 with RvP and Podolski playing up front, and then Walcott on the RHS and in the middle Song & Arteta/Wilshere and not forgetting we have Coquelin and Rosicky (Even a fit Diaby is half-decent). I honestly don’t think we need M’Vila. If we maintain the 4-3-3, One would assume that Podolski will play on the left, with Song, Arteta and Wilshere forming a midfield trio. But the problem is that none of them provide a real goal threat so why should we spend 20-odd million on someone who is not needed? I’d rather we buy a versatile midfielder or a winger. If we decide to partner Song-M’Vila, one of Arteta or Wilshere would have to sit. We can assume Arteta because M’Vila has the discipline to stay back (like Arteta). But we need answers as to where Jan Vertonghen would play. He can also play DM which strengthens my case as to why we shouldn’t sign M’Vila. I may be wrong anyway. We Are Arsenal!!!

You are exactly wrong pal because we need a squad not just first team, thats why we need M vila. Our first team is already as good as any in the EPL.

he is not wrong. you are. we maybe need another defensive midfielder but we need attacking midfielder much more defensive. we really lack that type of players(rosicky, meybe wilshere some day and thats it)we dont have much players who can go through the middle and beat opponent one on one and deliver final pass. so as we all think wenger will bring 3 players and podolski is already coming i think one of the two other signings should be an attacking midfielder like gotze, eriksen, belhanda…

we need mvilla for depth. A lot of people make the mistake of thinking that all these players cannot all get games. But they can. It is about rotation. The same players cannot play champions league, epl, fa cup and carling cup. And then there is the issue of injuries. Dont you just hate it when a key player gets injured and suddenly there is no capable plan b? Look how frail we are without an injured arteta? Now imagine if we had mvilla at times like this? We certainly would have won at least one or two of the games we have either drawn or lost.

Why the hell do we need an average squad player like Vertonghen? We need a creative midfielder. Arteta doesn’t really play that role under Wenger. Ramsey ain’t good enough yet. Diaby can’t play for more than 20 mins per 3 months. Rosicky is doing well at the moment but he really needs to be a back up to a quality player. All our creativity was lost when we sold Fabregas and N*sri.

@49unbeaten and az ur exactly wat am saying, we need a creative midfielder, to hold and distribute passes a quality one…..or even two…..M’villa not really neede….but i think vertongen would be a gr8 addition becuz of injury…vermalean is prone to injury and so also kosciely (short ones) having jan wuld be a peace of mind and he can alo play in lot of places, DM, fullback…… rmemba we need good bench also if we need trophy….cuz if their is not like injury in football, then arsenal wuld win most of the trophies

Vertonghen a squad player dont make me laugh. he pisses qll over vermaelen koscielny and mertesacker and he is a million times better than djourou squillaci and miquel. he is so much better than vermaelen that whenever they are both fit vermaelen is switched to left bqck if vertonghen is needed at centre half.

if u ask me what is stronger centre back we have koscielny vermaelen mertesacker djourou squillaci bartley miquel boateng angha monteiro

midfield we have song arteta rosicky wilshire coquelin ramsey walcott chamberlain gervinho arshavin miyaichi frimpong diaby lansbury ozyakup eisfeld yennaris henderson eastmond ebicilio rees galindo denilson wynter gnabry toral olsson

it is most definitely centre back and also at full back we are very short. so much so that we had to play 7 players at right back this season 5 of those out of position. we also played 5players at left back 3 out of position

I think we need just two signings. Vertonghen and a worldclass creative player. We have a lot of players like Song, Wilshere, Arteta, Coquelin, Diaby (when he is fit)and Frimpong who can play as defensive midfielders. I think we don’t need M’villa.

We have plenty of defensive midfielders. Coquelin, Arteta, Wilshere, Song & Frimpong can all play in that role. We need a quality play maker.

If M’Vila or Jan were to be brought, we’d have a lot more room to rotate our midfield holding players and have the opportunity to push Arteta into the CAM role. Both would be good buys IMO, but since when has a fans opinion ever sanctioned the transfer of a player? Wenger knows what he is doing, with Podolski already added and with (what looks like) more negotiations taking place, AW seems pretty intent of coming out of this transition period that we’re in.

I would love vertonghen and belhanda. I heard we are getting matias Suarez as well so that is great work by arsenal. M’Vila would be a big bonus down

don’t care what the name is across the back of the shirt, as long as wenger brings in some (at least 4) quality players…. i.e. not one or 2 who are just squad players… we want 1st team players and high end challengers on the bench itching to get on the pitch and give it their all. So yes podolski and Vertonghen fit that bill. think maybe we should be trying to get some premiership proven quality… fellaini, sigurdsson, dempsey, al habsi, micha richards(not saying that this is who i would buy just saying they are all hungry players) we have missed out on so much talent lately its unreal- Parker, cahill, mata, jones… the list is endless. so i no longer want to hear that i believe in this team so i won’t waste money on new players…. if that is the case then you can kiss goodbye to RVP… buying quality will breed quality. by the way i can only think of one loanee we need to bring back RYODINHO… the rest can be sold along with squilacci, djourou, almunia, fabianski, chamack, park… we just don’t need them eating up our wage bill
