Robin van Persie To Prolong The Transfer Saga Till December?

August 13, 2012
By

Arsenal ended their preseason friendly on a high, as they strolled to a comfortable victory over Cologne at the RheinEnergieStadion. Arsenal’s new signing Lukas Podolski was arguably man of the match as he announced his arrival to the Gooners with a wonderful brace. The German international was then replaced in the 68th minute by Robin van Persie, and there was an irony about it. The new fan favorite was replaced by someone who formerly held that soft spot. While the former Koln striker made his way off the pitch to generous applause from both set of supporters, the Dutchman received a muffled welcome from the Gooners, unsurprisingly perhaps.

In the post match interview Arsene Wenger was asked ‘the’ question, the one which he has already faced innumerous times this season,” what is the status of the van Persie situation?”. According to the Daily Mail, the Frenchman, as defiant as ever, replied –
‘There’s no news on van Persie. Our fans want him to stay so you can understand they are excited. Anything I could say about Van Persie would be a lie because he’s our player and that’s it.

‘Robin scored 30 goals last season and you want to keep your best players. He was player of the year in England. We want to keep him. I cannot tell you more at the moment because I don’t know more.

‘We have not bought the players to replace Van Persie, but to strengthen our squad with the thinking Van Persie will stay. That’s still my mind at the moment.’

According to the latest reports, van Persie will stay at the London club till the winter transfer window. He would then decide on extending his contract or leaving the Emirates depending on whether Arsenal are still in the title race. Having said that, many people believe that there is a lot of internal struggle in the boardroom with regards to the Dutchman’s future. The Arsenal board is unwilling to take that risk and let van Persie enter into the last year of his contract, while Arsene Wenger is desperate to hang onto him with the hope that he will be able to convince van Persie into extending his contract if the Gunners put a strong title challenge (Which Le Prof is very confident of….).

As for me, I feel selling him now is not the best for us, we reduce our strenght and risk our chance of winning trophy more.

Does the risk worth taken? I think if he fails to put pen on dotted lines before August 18th. Wenger should as a matter of urgency cash in on him.

Van persie is a truely great player but he said he didnt want to sign.
    So let him go.
Settle the squad down and start the season off right
All we are doing is making the same mistakes as last year
    When will we learn
I have no time for man utd but they do things right on transfers and players.

I love rvp! Cumon gunners we all do as much as we maybe upset by him…(at the moment) But the guy shud no that thez no player bigger than the club so he shud jus make up hiz mind! We wa there for him for 7 years full of injuries, the least he can do is just 2 sign anatha contract with us! If he stayz, he has a BIG BIG chance of emulating denis bergkamp in becoming the best Dutch player ever to play in the premier lig! Robin, we love u, ur a super talent, but pliz make up ur mind!

The 20million we would get for him is not worth as much as a full season with him in the vastly improved squad. I think the current squad with him in it is as good as any in the EPL. Certainly a CL threat. Domestic cups obviously. Wins in any of these (excluding Capital One Cup) would likely result in his signature on a new contract.

Why cash in on RVP now? The AFC bean counters are extreme short-termists and self-aggrandizing. Just like RVP’s agent/advisors. Any positive contribution by RVP will put us deep into the CL and clinch the next CL and the money that comes with that will easily pay off his loss, IF he decides to go, whenever he and his advisor-supreme, Darren Damien Dein, decide. If RVP does badly, then his transfer value will decline; and so it’s in his interests to do well if hopefully they decide to stay.

I still maintain my prediction that RVP is going nowhere. He is still our player and captain. Man U wants to entice him with bigger wage and buy him cheap. Even the 25m pounds price tag is not worth the trouble. Wenger should go all out and offer RVP a comparatively good wage as he did for Henry. If RVP stays, we will win trophies next season but we need to re-inforce our defense.

As for me. I would bench him rest of the games i know the spark of RVP will be nothing compare last season.. :)

We should NEVER sell to ManU, under no circumstances. It does not make sense. He is our player and he should stay, period!

U see the board again. All they think abt is money money money. When are they going to think abt trophies? Wenger wants to keep hm so he can win something and u morons want to sell. The unfortunate thing is he is 90 percent likely to be sold since the board hs decided. They dont evn care who they sell him to. Am very sad we have these people on our board. SAD! SAD! SAD!

Van persie is even ashamed of himself to swallow his words. In Wenger I trust

  17. August 13, 2012 at 7:28 pm

How could anyone trust the board? Wenger’s vision must be honored or we’ll deal RvP and the board will pocket the proceeds. Only the craziest of offers–in the 25-30 range–should be considered. Losing RvP on a free isn’t much of a risk/financial blow compared to undermining the momentum of great summer signings, losing THE LEADING goal scorer of last season, sending him to a club that stands between us and trophies, and missing out on a player who will have to play well to keep his value up. For me, there’s no debate: hold RvP to his contract, get the most from him, and see if you can get a new deal before he walks.

Wenger will never sell rvp to man u. Rvp will sign a new contract very soon and we gunner thankful to him cos if not for his reaction, our team would not be srong as it is now. Watch out for another invisible record this season. Any team that play draw with arsenal will be thanksful this season. You just mark my word.

I think he’s going to be sold to United bcos they’ve been relatively quite since kagawa, it will be sad to see him line up for United or any other Epl side for that matter but that the irony of today’s football

  22. August 13, 2012 at 9:17 pm

Rvp we strongly urge you to stay as we assure that trophies will be won.

in myopinion we must sell him this transfer window before his price takes a dramatic fall. many people seem to have been blinded by his sensational last season and are forgetting the seasons he spent on the sidelines recovering from injury. last season was his only outstanding season and i think if we drive for20 mill its worth taking. the money can be used by AW to make another quality signing as he has done 3 times this transfer window. however i have total faith in AW.
