Although Martin O’Neill’s Sunderland team have been in excellent form lately, they are now suffering from a distinct lack of first team players ahead of today’s League meeting with Arsenal at the Stadium of Light.

One good thing for the Gunners is that Nicklas Bendtner is ineligible to come back and bite Arsenal on the bum due to the Premiership loan rules, but also the Dane’s partner-in-crime Lee Cattermole is also out with a hamstring injury.

Matt Kilgannon is close to fitness but won’t be ready to play today, while O’Neill is sweating on Stephan Sessegnon as well since he came off in midweek just after scoring the winning goal against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.

David Vaughan, Wes Brown and Titus Bramble are also still in the teatment room, although O’Neill could call on the new loan signings Wayne Bridge and Sotirios Kyrgiakos if he thinks they are fit enough.

Having played in midweek Sunderland are sure to be more tired than Arsenal today, and now that Wenger has virtually two fully fit teams to choose from surely he can conjure up a winning formula to start off this crucial week in style.
