Arsene Wenger commended Jordan Pickford outstanding performance, but quell all thought of possible signing of the Sunderland goalkeeper.
Sunderland put up a tough display at the Emirates stadium, but in spite of that, they were still defeated 2-0 after Pickford’s goal was finally breached, Alexis racking up a late brace.
Sunderland’s play has greatly improved from their miserable performance against Swansea City but found themselves on the ropes for the better part of the game and Pickford should receive the credit for keeping up with the Gunners.
Arsenal made 36 attempts, with the 23-year-old pulling off 11 saves leading to praise from both David Moyes and Wenger.
Pickford would likely be leaving the Stadium of Light this summer, with Sunderland in need of cash to make them active in the transfer market
Everton are supposedly the favorites to land him but Arsenal have also indicated interest in a summer move for the shotstopper.
Wenger, though, ruled out a move this summer saying he needs no additional player in the goalkeeping department.
“He had an exceptional night,” said the Arsenal boss, when asked about Pickford’s sensational display.
