Wenger will not be saying Arrivederci to Robin van Persie

Robin van Persie is going on a family holiday after Holland were unceremoniously dumped out of Euro 2012. He will then be concentrating on his future, and Arsene Wenger appears to be supremely confident that van Persie will be an Arsenal player next season.

Press rumours had put Juventus as favourites to land the Dutch striker after his father told reporters that he would not be transferring to a Premier league rival or to a Spanish club. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United have all been linked with the super striker recently.

Wenger has pored cold water on Juventus hopes by telling Italian newspaper La Republica “He will stay at Arsenal.” The Frenchman claimed that van Persie would be going down a level rather than up if he joined a Serie A club. Italians have dropped out of serious contention for Europe’s major honours recently.

Of course, Juventus will have a great chance of retaining the Italian title, but Mr. Wenger told the newspaper that “if he moves there, I will buy you a Caramello.” Knowing how careful the Arsenal boss is with money, he must be sure of his facts. With Manchester City unwilling to pay over £15 million, according to Footylatest, hopefully van Persie will be renewing his contract at the Emirates.
