Were Fabregas, Clichy And Nasri Right To Leave?

May 14, 2012
By

With the summer transfer window about to open and with the 2011/12 Premiership season having just ended, people are asking themselves whether Fabregas, Nasri and Clichy made the right choice to move last summer.

The question is even more important if we think about the fact that Arsenal’s captain Robin Van Persie has a lot of offers coming in and only one more season on his contract. The likes of Song, Walcott or Vermaelen are also highly regarded and are due to be the subjects of massive summer speculation, so what should they do?

Sure, it’s awesome to be a Gunner, and for most of the players there’s no feeling that can top this in the world, but for any football player trophies are what they’re in the game for. After leaving the club, Fabregas, Clichy and Nasri managed to immediately get a trophy under their name, and people have started asking each other whether other star Gunners shouldn’t do the same.

Many Arsenal fans slammed Nasri after he left the club, calling him a mercenary, but even though we all hate him for leaving, the French midfielder managed to prove in the end that his choice was the best one to make, so should be still blame them for leaving?

I think clichy left at the right time, as he didn’t have much more he could learn at arsenal and could slot in and contribute to a title-winning side immediately. He proved in the 07/08 season that he could already succeed in the right environment.
In terms of winning the title, of course nasri will feel vindicated in leaving, but if he really has a dream of being recognised as one of the best in the world, I think staying at arsenal for at least another year or two would have benefited him more, as he is still far from the finished article, and I’m not yet convinced that City is the best place for developing talent. That said, he did prove by the end of the season that he is a very good player and did contribute to their success.
Congrats to both these players and to City. I’m not so fussed about the whole money issue if the best team can actually win the title for once. United have been getting away with winning it with lesser sides for too long. As naff as we were, last season even we were better than United overall. The number of big decisions that went in their favour, particularly wrt red cards, was absurd. This year the Utd favouritism has been less obvious to me, but they’ve still benefited more than most, and certainly more than city.

we no more need clichy as wenger will give his finishing touches to gibbs. nasri should stop thinking that he is the best player in the world. not a word about cesc! sometimes you have to hate people whom you once loved the most. we are gooners, remember!

We are living a lie that whatever Wenger can twist its God chosen. In the current state Arsenal can never win the premiership. We don’t have a good creative midfielder and for a team with lightweight players like ours creative midfielder is a must. 12 months down the line we will be here celebrating getting 3,4,5 position and proclaiming that it is the best season ever!

I have no cares for nasri clichy or fabregas. our points tally and 3rd place was better this year without them than it was last year with them. In.fact 3rd is as high as they ever took us.

Only because Chelsea, Liverpool (and Spurs) lost their way.

      • May 15, 2012 at 6:22 am

…….and we’re responsible for them losing their way i guess?

Am a supporter of wenger, but truly i think its time he got replaced by a new manager, cos am sick and tired of AFC going trophyless every season and playing 2nd fiddle 2 d likes of MANU,MANCITY and others bcos of his lack of interest 2 make quality signings and also keeping d little number of quality we’ve got over d past few yrs.(5th richest club indeed.Huh!)

Ok..clichy and nasri won a trophy..are they justified ?? even kolo toure, flamini, hleb, fabregas, eboue, cole won trophies…keep them aside for a minute..
which of the 2 players will be remembered ?? bergkamp or hleb ?? hleb probably won more trophies in 1 season than bergkamp ever did…are trophies that important ?? RVP should make a decision – leave to win a few trophies (money certainly guarantees success) .. or stay at arsenal and be immortal..if he stays im 500% sure he will have a statue at the emirates one day..his name will be mentioned along with the bergkamps and henrys even 50 years down the line…enough said
    GUNNERS 4 LIFE !!

you immortalised these guys because they won trophies and because they are parts of a good arsenal squad…would you immortalise Cesc as good as he was for arsenal? Would Henry have stayed if arsenal failed to win any silverware? Why did Henry leave? Why do the captains keep leaving? Arsenal almost ruined Lassana Diara….what happened after he left? Forget who you remember….GREAT PLAYERS WIN SOMETHING!

this should make us realise that wenger should be replaced……imagin all this players left and then won trouphies immediately at other clubs. Why didnt they win it at arsenal? Wengeer!!! The board!!!!!we need that change. I wrote at the beginning of the season…FANS SAVE UR GUNNERZ. All i can guarantee is dt this trend will continue and arsenal will still be a selling club, a top4 team, but NEVER WINNING ANYTHING. Its getting painfull these days being a gunner!

There’s another point too. They all got offered double their salary. I would definitely leave my work for double my salary. If that means I do nothing for it (like sitting on a bench) i would in a heartbeat and any success added to that (trophies) is a bonus.

Sorry but money makes the world go round and I work for money not work satisfaction. If I had the choice I wouldn’t work at all.

I guess the difference is that most of us don’t love our jobs. However, if most of us were footballers then I think we would want to go to work rather than sit watching others do it. I know if I had made it as a footballer then there is no way I would want to be sitting on the bench.

do you really think anybody will remember Zlatan in 15 years? doesnt matter if he wins 100 fkn trophys, same goes for Nasri. If you ask a person whos the best football player, they will chose someone with class and style and not a club/money whore

    • dagashini
      May 14, 2012 at 5:08 pm

You must be a kinky…Zlatan is a top player that will always be remembered and immortalised by swedes. Do you think football ends at clubs level.

I don’t have a problem with Clichy leaving, or fabregas. They spent many years at the club and spent quite a long time playing at the top of their game for Arsenal (+ Fab left for a club he loves). The one I don’t like is Nasri. As soon as we had trained him up he left. This is the difference, a total lack of loyalty to the club that has developed him as a player. He was nothing before joining Arsenal, we made him, he had 6 good months and then left, insulting the fans on the way out. Nasri is scum.

I don’t think we need worry about TV5 leaving either. He recently signed a long-term contract and stated the reason for signing that the club had stuck by him when he had his injuries. That is loyalty and respect – paying back what he owes to the club. Lets all just pray RVP has similar morals to TV5 and not that scumbag Nasri.

The players leave because were not winning trophies but if they only stay we could do a number on the league imagine this for a starting XI this season szcezney sagna kos verm clichy song fabregas nasri (with wilshere injured) Theo oxlade or benyaoun rvp with the likes of arteta Gibbs oxlade or benyaoun on the bench plus if they stayed we have podolski next season with possible other signings. We would have a strong starting 11 plus depth in the bench aswell which we have needed in past seasons.

Nasir left for the money after he was illegally approached by city. Hleb won tropies with Barceona but was he happy? Nasir should shut up, supposely he stayed maybe Arsenal should have won the EPL, if he wa really after trophies. He should celebrate now as he may never win any again. City spent 932.2m GBP to tie with man u on points. Nasir will do himself a lot of good by NOT talking about Arsenal (just as Kolo Toure is quiet about Arsenal), by the time he finds himself on bench, he may wish to come on loan (just like Adebayor, since no other team can pay his bloaed wages). Onc you join city, you are stucked as no team can afford your wages, that is why Tevez couldnt leave.

I think its a little too early to say. Helb, reyes, flamini left arsenal and almost immediately won trophies but can it be said that they made the right decision in leaving? With nasri, fab and clichy last season,we struggled to finish 4th but finished 3rd without them. Is that not progress? Chris of cambridge,i think you re ignorant. Why didn’t you say the reason city and utd finished above us,is cos we lost our way? Or the reason spurs and newcastle tried to rub shoulders with arsenal, was cos we lost our way? Stop posting rubbish, you glory hunters.

seems like every1 knows what arsenal needs 2 win titles…..quality players.we can’t win anything f we keep on losing our best players and fail to replace them.

We should now work on keeping the best we have and add a few more.RVP should b convinced to stay as we nid his xpirience so should vermaelen, kcoscielny, walcott, song, rosciky and sagna.

But how can Arsenal win any trophy when Clichy & co developed very well & made all their footballing mistakes playing for Arsenal before asking for move. It just shows the human selfish nature, because if Wenger had not given them a chance would they all be thinking of winning a trophy. RVP may do the same by leaving Arsenal too. What has he really done for Arsenal?
RVP is spending his 8th year with the club and has been injured in all except this last one. So why should somebody like him blame the club for not winning trophy. If he had been fit in 2007/08 season , we probably might have won the EPL. All the players are all selfish goats

arsenal finished 4th with cesc, nasri n clichy and 3rd without them. but the game play have changed. the season before that we didnt have the finisher, now we lack creativity. arsenal were better team just unlucky not to win. this tie they got lucky finishing 3rd or its EPL that really losing its quality.
