After weeks and weeks of speculation and rumours about this player coming to the Arsenal and that player coming to the Arsenal, finally we hear some new news from the horse’s mouth. However, as always, we are no more in the picture as Arsenal fans than we have been for the last seven years.
At the Start of the closed season I was confident that the “farce” that was last year’s transfer window for AFC was not going to repeat itself and that we would strike quickly and decisively and secure the “key” players we so clearly need. By the beginning of the new season we would be filled with hope for a more successful future.
We were moving quickly for Podolski and there was talk of every player from Giroud to M’villa and Vertonghen, all of whom seemed like possibilities and I like many thought “surely they wont let things go downhill like they did last year???”
Podolski was ours, good news, then we were hit with the Van Persie bombshell and even the securing of Olivier Giroud was eclipsed by our want away captain and his now apparent arrogant wage demands. Now we are back to square one, we have two of our key players scheming and plotting for more cash ( does Theo really believe that he’s worth 100k a week? If he does he’s deluded), or more “ambition” in RVP’s case and no news whatsoever to the positive regarding the strengthening of the squad that we so desperately need.
Now Don’t think for a moment that I’m anti-Arsene Wenger, because that’s not the case at all, and I’m fully aware of the need to “play your cards close to your chest” but to come right out and state that Diaby is, when fit, an adequate Midfielder for what we wish to achieve is not smoke and mirrors its pure madness. a) he’s never ever going to be fit long enough to play well and b) he’s not that good when he is fit. Our Beloved Jack Wilshere is also a non starter for the beginning of the season and that’s bad news too, as we don’t really have any true idea as to how long he will stay fit once he is fit. In my experience injuries like these are career threatening and are a cause for major concern. Should we not be looking to carry on trying to bolster our squad in the area that we currently need it most? MIDFIELD!!!!! The area that is crucial to both defence and attack. The engine room if you like.
There is not one player in midfield that fits the criteria of a CONSISTENT creative playmaker at this juncture (discounting Jack as he’s not fit). Arteta is naturally a DM as he doesn’t have the legs and Song is key in certain area’s but his ball distribution moving forward is dire most of the time. Rosicky is a doubt as he’s inconsistant and injury prone, Ramsey, well lets see, but there are no definites with him right now. Denilson if off in Brazil and Arshavin….? who knows whats happening with him? I feel a worrying sense of Déjà vu and all the rumours in the world can’t seem to dispel this feeling. It would seem with what AW said yesterday, that’s it for us in the transfer market, especially since we still have a lot of useless dead wood to offload and the reasoning behind some of those buys still makes me shake my head in disbelief. I mean, what is Park all about? Short term shirt sales in the Korean market??
Don’t go thinking, fellow Gooners, that we will be buying Ganso or M’vila or anyone else this summer because it seems quiet apparent to me now that we are not in the market to spend any more money and are looking to sell again. It’s not always what AW says sometimes, it’s what he doesn’tt say that speaks volumes. Hopefully I’m wrong but I can’t help but think, “here we go again.” Could this be our “financial structure” allowing us yet again to “compete” at the highest levels or could it be the tight fistedness of the club’s policies setting us up for yet another trophyless season?? lets wait and see eh??
