Will Van Persie’s departure be the beginning of the end for Arsenal?

Former Gunner legend Patrick Vieira seems to think that Robin Van Persie is at the moment the glue which keeps the club together at Arsenal, and that if the Dutchman will leave the Gunners will face massive problems in keeping their valuable players.

According to Vieira Robin is one of the best players which stayed at Arsenal after Nasri and Fabregas left last season, and that his departure could mark the beginning of a very bad period at the club where players will be hard to keep and even harder to transfer.

“When Samir and Cesc left, you could say, ‘OK, but we still have Van Persie and Jack Wilshere at the club.’

“But if Robin leaves, that means next year it may be Theo Walcott, next year it’s Wilshere, and it’s going to be difficult for Arsenal to keep their top players.”

“Robin wants to win trophies – and Arsenal have to prove he can do it with them.

“We know that Robin loves Arsenal. That is not the question – the real question is how Arsene Wenger will convince Robin they can win trophies.”

Arsene Wenger just managed to sign Lukas Podolski, who will surely prove to be a fantastic signing, but he’ll need much more than a striker to convince Van Persie that he should remain with the Gunners and sign a new contract.

Could Arsenal recover if Van Persie leaves this summer?

The beginning of the end ? No, no …. that was when Wenger prematurely broke up his 2nd great team and embarked upon a personal mission to conquer the world via intellectual, attacking football – based on mainly young home produced players.

No player is bigger than the club we have lost bigger players than RVP before Henry Vieira just to name a couple and we are still here and always will be one player will not change that besides I don’t think he will be leaving anyway

If rvp leaves, I don’t think he will, but if he does we will replace him with a good alternative, in my opinion we should sign leandro damioa even if rvp doesn’t leave, he will be a great replacement for rvp if he leaves or when he gets to the age when his legs aren’t what they used to be.

The beginning of the end? What a silly statement – it will just force Wenger to be more proactive in the transfer market – look at what Newcastle have done this year, not long after being relegated!

What a silly question, one exceptional season doesn’t make a club or if one individual left doesn’t mean end of the club.

The club will still be here when RVP has long departed. RVP wants a massive pay rise, remind you of anyone? Only one great season in 8 years most of the time injured. grab the money let him settle on someone else’s treatment table

If he decide 2 leave, let him do that on time so dat wenger will enough time 2 plan and will not be able to give silly excuses any longer

i think although we want him to stay we do not depend on him. He has had one great season but again we are not settled. the arm band should be now given to the verminator as he has shown his commitment to the club. i dont wanna see another arsenal captain given the arm band to stay for just one more year. we need stability and at the moment van is far from that as was fab before him. a skipper rallies his troups for the fight ahead not what he done last season. chamakh lost his place to van when he was flying so if that wasn’t a kick in the teeth for him, and the lack of football and confidence done the rest. van will probably come back from euros injured as usual so i say we either get a plan in order now and make him sign or not promise first team action next year and get a new captain now. Or last year will be with up again. arteta would also make a great skipper as he has probably signed for the rest of his career

also as a foot note to my last comment viera in my eyes never a legend. A legend to me is adams, bergkamp, keown, etc who truely loved the club oh and wenger and rice. All with us till the end me careers

Having been patient with van for eight years on the treatment table and now think with only one season good perfomance he now need money, then he can leave and wenger must start looking for replacement wether he stays or not to prevent last year drama. But if he does leave then he becomes a traitor for paying wenger biterly for all the patience and good things that he has done for him. Arsenal can still move on

Any football club is not depends on any individual. It is club who makes individuals, so robin leaves or entire squad leaves, time will heal everything. Arsenal as a club on its own unique way will surely find new robin.

We already in our squad lots of young guns who are very committed to arsenal at the moment. I like to see those players as captain whose wants to be with club. If robin leaves, I like to see Arteta, Vermalean or Rosisky as Captain. Of course, we can get some more strikers or let Chamak shine (after all he is for when robin is not able to play)

Though Chealsea CL win might have influenced lots of players but we are always Gunnners :)

Life goes on, you just need an adequate marquee replacement. I would consider Torres who is not happy with his role at Chelsea, and has stated in the past his admiration for the way Arsenal play.
