As per reports in Spain, Thomas Vermaelen is surplus to requirements at Barcelona and Manager Luis Enrique is quick to dispose him off from Camp Nou.
Vermaelen signed a five-year deal with the Catalan club in 2014 for £15m. Considering the 30-year-old just managed 21 appearances all through his stay at the club.
Reports suggest that Barcelona would like to get him off their books as Roma will be his possible destination with a reduced fee of €10m being offered. Though, the transfer fee is low, but the players’ compensation is around €4m a year – Which Roma might be unwilling to pay.
Nevertheless, Arsenal have been linked with a move for Roma’s Kostas Manolas since Roma are interested in getting the services of former Arsenal player, Vermaelen.
With Vermaelen moving to Roma, Manolas would be an easy fish to catch as the both players play in identical positions.
The Arsenal defence needs an upgrade considering the fact that current defenders at the Gunners set up are not getting any younger; Per Mertesacker is already 32, Koscienly is 30.
Manolas joined AS Roma in 2014 from Olympiacos and his contract will expire in 2019.
There is a real chance that Wenger would love to sign a young centre back and Manolas is a perfect fir as he is just aged 25.
The Greek man would be a good pairing for either of the other guys in defence. The center back is valued £18m at transfermarkt.co.uk, which is a perfect fee that Arsene would love to pay to get his services.
