Spurs’ manager Harry Redknapp wants to mess up Arsene Wenger’s January transfer season plan and snatch the Belgian Jan Vertonghen from under Arsenal’s nose.
The Ajax footballer is used at his club team as a central defender having a very imposing stature being a massive 1.89m in height and doing a brilliant job, but for his country he plays regularly on the defensive midfielder position proving to be the same secure player on the defence and a real help in the offense often creating scoring opportunities for his team mates and even having a pop himself from time to time.
The Belgian would be a great addition to the English Premier League, but with the way Emmanuel Frimpong and Francis Coquelin are growing he is unlikely to be transferred by Wenger because this will ruin the youngsters’ chances of getting first team action in championship games.
Some might argue that he could be transferred to play in the defence, but what about Vermaelen, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Miquel and Djourou? That’s why even though he’d be a great addition, it’s tough to say exactly where he could play in Arsenal’s team.
