Wenger – Chamakh unlikely to leave Arsenal in January

Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger spoke about striker Marouane Chamakh and the possibility to send him on a loan in January. According to the Frenchman Chamakh only needs playing time to get back in form, but with Robin Van Persie in the current form and with Walcott and Gervinho on the wings there’s no room for Chamakh at the time.

“It is confidence. But it is difficult to loan him now because of the African Nations Cup. They come back in February, usually quite tired, so it is not easy,” he said.

“They need to go out two weeks before the tournament starts. Then it lasts two and a half weeks. Then they need two weeks’ recovery. So it is six weeks.

“If you do not play regularly, every time you play you have absolutely to be outstanding. And he is more a player who works for the team, so he needs the confidence, the game-practice. He suffers a bit from the lack of chances he gets.”

The Morocco striker was linked with a possible transfer move to PSG or Bordeaux in January, and Spanish team Sevilla was also interested in the striker. Perhaps it would be better for everybody if Chamakh would leave and Wenger will bring another striker at the club like Podolski or Leandro Damiao……
