Tottenham Joined Arsenal In The Race For Belgian Star

Belgian star defensive player Jan Vertonghen caught the eye of Tottenham’s boss Harry Redknapp and now Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger will find it more difficult to sign the player he’s been watching since the summer.

Vertonghen is rumoured to be wanted as a pair for Tottenham’s defensive man Kaboul. The Belgian proved his worth in the Champions League against big names like Lyon and Real Madrid, but will now be joining the Europa League and might even come against Tottenham at a certain point.

Arsenal is also highly interested in the 24-year-old, but Wenger has other plans with him. He doesn’t need him to play as a centre-back as he already has that position filled, he wants him to play as a defensive midfielder just like he does at his national team.

The only downside to the story is that Vertonghen already played with Ajax in the Champions League, and will be unavailable for both Tottenham and Arsenal to use in the European leagues.
